I’m not sure if this message will be seen after the time that has passed since this original post.
I find the information you have written very interesting and was wondering if the same ‘James Perkins’ known to our family as ‘Arthur James Perkins’ is the same man, who is my Great Great Great Grandfather.

You did mention that the’Personal Life’ is complicated. And this may possibly add another layer to that.

My Great Great Grandmother is Grace Stanmore Perkins born in 1881 or 1882 in NSW. I have her original marriage certificate with her father listed as Arthur James Perkins occupation ‘Stage Business’. Grace Perkins Married James Henry Bailey and had my Great Grandmother Lucy Sophia Bailey. On the marriage certificate as mentioned above, Grace’s father was Arthur James Perkins, but her mother was listed as ‘Not Known’ – rather strange.

There is a possibility her mother’s name was Lilla but any other information is unknown.

A story passed down through our family tells of a tightrope walker in the Circus being on that side of the family and I believe that ‘James Perkins’ is the same ‘Arthur James Perkins’. Another part of the story is the name Elton. Grace Stanmore Perkins was also known in the family as ‘Grace Stanmore Elton Perkins’ and I find references to the name Elton in the information you provided.

Too many coincidences for this to not be the same person. However, I cannot understand how Grace Stanmore Perkins comes into the picture with the two marriages of James Perkins to Sarah Ann Bishop and Catherine Byrne Rendalls. Somewhere either while still married or in between marriages, he must have also had my Great Great Grandmother Grace in 1881 or 1882.

I would be interested to know your thoughts on this information and if you have any knowledge of Grace or a woman named Lilla that was likely Grace’s mother. Other than that, our family has no further information on this side of the family and any help would be greatly appreciated.
